Fire Retardant Cable

Fire Retardant Cables are designed to function properly during the fire. The emission of smoke from Fire Retardant Cables is free from corrosive gas which helps firefighters to take control of the fire quickly.

In all fire disasters – fire smoke, heat, and toxic fumes are the main obstacles for the safe evacuation of a building or area. Using fireproof cables having fire resistance, fire retardance, and low smoke and non-halogenated properties play a major role in overcoming these hazards.

Depending on characteristics- Fire Retardant Cables are typically three types:

  1. Fire Resistant LSZH Cables,
  2. Fire Retardant LSZH Sheathed Cables and
  3. Fire Retardant PVC Sheathed Cables.

These cables types provide the following:

  1. Fire Resistance
  2. Long-term circuit integrity in a fire
  3. Minimum smoke emission
  4. Flame Retardance
  5. Reduced fire propagation
  6. Zero halogen

Fire Retardant Cables which commonly known as “Fire Alarm Cables” or “Fire Resistant Cables” provided by “SQ Wire & Cables Company” ensures all of the properties above. ‘LSZH’, cables must pass two tests at SQ Lab:

A.  A smoke cubet test, which sets a maximum accumulated smoke density produced when burning the cable with a standard fire.

B. A corrosive and acid gas test where the cable materials are roasted and give off a maximum of 0.5% acid gas.

Both tests are specified in cable standards which ensure, the description ‘having a low emission of smoke and corrosive gases when affected by fire’.

Cables made from PVC or similar halogenated materials are unlikely to pass these tests. A common misunderstanding is that an ‘FRLS’ and ‘Fire Retardant’ both are same. “FRLS” only goes through the smoke test and not the acid gas test. But, fireproof ‘LSZH’ goes through both tests. In SQ, we use the ‘LSZH’ as it reinforces both requirements and provides maximum safety to the clients in the case of fire hazards.

Fire Retardant Cables are mainly used in the wiring of:

  1. Fire Resistance Safety Circuits.
  2. Public address and emergency voice communication systems in a high-rise building
  3. Control and instrumentation services in industrial, commercial and residential complexes
  4. High-temperature installation condition
  5. These are used in the design and installation of fire alarm systems.
